Kenya has taken another significant step in expanding its international economic partnerships following the launch of the Kenya Business Council in Dubai, a landmark initiative expected to accelerate trade, investment and commercial collaboration between businesses in the two markets while reinforcing Kenya’s position as one of Africa’s leading investment destinations.
The establishment of the council marks an important milestone in the deepening economic relationship between Kenya and Dubai, creating a structured platform through which businesses, investors and industry leaders can strengthen commercial engagement, identify new investment opportunities and build long-term partnerships that deliver mutual economic benefits. Coming at a time when Kenya continues to pursue an ambitious economic transformation agenda, the initiative demonstrates growing international confidence in the country’s economic potential and strategic importance within the African continent.
The council, established under the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, provides an institutional framework for expanding business-to-business cooperation by connecting Kenyan enterprises with one of the world’s most dynamic commercial ecosystems. Through regular engagement, networking forums, investment promotion activities and market intelligence sharing, the platform is expected to lower barriers to market entry while creating new pathways for enterprises from both sides to expand their commercial presence
Its launch complements the implementation of the Kenya-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which is designed to facilitate trade, improve market access and encourage greater cross-border investment. Together, these initiatives strengthen the policy and institutional foundation required to unlock higher levels of bilateral commerce while creating greater certainty for investors seeking opportunities in both markets.
Dubai’s position as a global centre for trade, logistics, aviation, finance and innovation presents enormous opportunities for Kenyan businesses seeking to expand beyond traditional export destinations. The emirate’s world-class infrastructure, sophisticated financial services, efficient logistics networks and extensive international connectivity provide an ideal gateway through which Kenyan products and services can access markets across the Gulf, Asia, Europe and other regions.
For Kenya, deeper engagement with Dubai enhances opportunities for exporters to diversify their markets while attracting investors looking for reliable entry points into East Africa. The relationship supports Kenya’s broader objective of positioning itself as the preferred regional hub for manufacturing, logistics, finance and commerce by leveraging its strategic location, expanding infrastructure and improving business environment.
The creation of the Kenya Business Council is also expected to stimulate greater investment across priority sectors that are central to Kenya’s long-term economic growth. Manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, infrastructure development, technology, renewable energy, tourism and financial services all stand to benefit from stronger commercial partnerships as businesses identify new areas for collaboration and investment.

Kenyan agricultural exporters are likely to gain from improved access to international buyers and distributors operating through Dubai’s extensive trading networks. At the same time, investors from Dubai will find increasing opportunities within Kenya’s expanding industrial base, infrastructure projects, digital economy and rapidly growing consumer market, reinforcing the country’s attractiveness as a competitive investment destination.
The latest figures illustrate the growing strength of the commercial relationship. During 2025, non-oil trade between Dubai and Kenya reached AED13.6 billion, equivalent to approximately KSh480 billion, representing continued growth in bilateral commerce. The number of active Kenyan companies registered with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce also rose to 587 following the addition of 146 new Kenyan businesses during the year, reflecting increasing confidence among Kenyan enterprises in Dubai as a strategic global business hub.
These developments point to a commercial partnership that is steadily gaining momentum as businesses increasingly capitalize on expanding economic cooperation and improved market access. Rising business registrations and sustained trade growth demonstrate that commercial ties are moving beyond traditional trade into broader investment, innovation and enterprise development
Equally significant is the council’s potential to strengthen Kenya’s private sector by providing companies with greater exposure to international markets, strategic investors and global supply chains. Small and medium-sized enterprises, which form the backbone of Kenya’s economy, stand to benefit from enhanced networking opportunities, business matchmaking, knowledge exchange and easier access to international partnerships that can accelerate growth and improve competitiveness.
The platform is expected to facilitate the exchange of expertise, encourage technology transfer and promote innovation by connecting Kenyan entrepreneurs with experienced global businesses operating across multiple industries. Such collaboration can help improve productivity, strengthen value addition and enable local enterprises to compete more effectively in international markets.
The launch also reinforces the importance of economic diplomacy as a key pillar of Kenya’s development strategy. By cultivating stronger commercial relationships with leading global business centres such as Dubai, Kenya continues to expand opportunities for exports, attract foreign direct investment and enhance investor confidence. These partnerships support sustainable economic growth by mobilizing private capital, creating employment opportunities and encouraging entrepreneurship across multiple sectors.
The initiative builds on broader efforts to strengthen Kenya’s commercial presence in the Gulf region, including the establishment of institutional support mechanisms that improve market intelligence, facilitate due diligence and provide businesses with greater confidence when entering international markets. Such measures are expected to reduce commercial risks while creating a more predictable environment for exporters and investors alike.
As Kenya continues to strengthen its international partnerships, the Kenya Business Council provides an important platform for translating diplomatic goodwill into tangible economic outcomes. Stronger commercial collaboration with Dubai will enhance Kenya’s integration into global value chains, expand opportunities for local enterprises and reinforce the country’s role as a gateway for international investment into East Africa.
The launch of the Kenya Business Council therefore represents far more than the creation of another business platform. It reflects the growing maturity of Kenya-Dubai economic relations and a shared commitment to building long-term commercial partnerships that drive trade, investment and innovation. By creating new opportunities for businesses, expanding international market access and strengthening investor confidence, the council reinforces Kenya’s emergence as one of Africa’s leading commercial, logistics and investment destinations while opening a new chapter of mutually beneficial economic cooperation with one of the world’s foremost global business centres.
