Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenya’s diplomatic corps to play a more proactive and strategic role in advancing the country’s economic growth, security, and global influence amid a rapidly evolving international landscape. Speaking at the close of the 19th Ambassadors’ Conference in Nairobi, Kindiki emphasized that Kenya’s foreign policy must go beyond traditional engagement and deliver tangible national benefits.
Kindiki underscored that diplomacy must be firmly anchored in Kenya’s domestic priorities, particularly the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda spearheaded by President William Ruto. He noted that Kenya’s missions abroad should actively promote trade, attract investment, and foster innovation partnerships that directly contribute to economic transformation at home.
According to the Deputy President, Kenya’s global engagement must be deliberate and results-oriented, positioning the country as a competitive and credible economic partner. He stressed that diplomats have a responsibility to translate policy into measurable outcomes by opening markets, facilitating business linkages, and enhancing Kenya’s visibility in key global sectors.
A key highlight of Kindiki’s address was the recognition of the Kenyan diaspora as a vital national asset. He described citizens living abroad as a strategic extension of the country’s capacity, emphasizing that their protection, dignity, and empowerment remain a core obligation of the government. Strengthening diaspora engagement, he said, is essential to boosting remittances, skills transfer, and international networks.

Kindiki further pointed out that Kenya possesses significant strategic advantages, including its status as a stable democracy in a volatile region, leadership in renewable energy and climate action, and its role as a regional hub for diplomacy, logistics, and finance. He challenged diplomats to leverage these strengths to secure concrete gains that enhance national development and global standing.
On matters of security, the Deputy President reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to regional stability, noting that the country’s prosperity is closely tied to that of its neighbours. He emphasized that Kenya will continue to play a consistent and responsible role in addressing emerging threats, including terrorism, conflict, and transnational crime, through diplomatic and multilateral efforts.
The conference, held at Safari Park Hotel, also served as a platform to reiterate the importance of clarity of purpose in Kenya’s foreign policy. Kindiki echoed President Ruto’s call for a focused and disciplined diplomatic service capable of navigating a global order that is increasingly complex and dynamic.
In conclusion, Kindiki urged ambassadors, high commissioners, and permanent representatives to execute their mandate with unwavering commitment to Kenya’s interests. With support from key officials including Musalia Mudavadi and senior government representatives, the message was clear: Kenya’s diplomacy must evolve into a powerful tool for driving economic opportunity, safeguarding national security, and shaping global outcomes in favor of the country.
