Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo has pledged that the government will soon operationalise all gazetted administrative units across the country, a move aimed at strengthening public service delivery and improving coordination at the grassroots. The PS said the initiative is part of broader government reforms designed to ensure that state services reach citizens more efficiently and equitably.

Speaking during a church service and thanksgiving ceremony at Gospel Commission Fellowship in Ogada Church, Wasimbete Ward, Suna West Sub-County, Omollo noted that activating the units will enhance the presence of national administration officers at the local level. He explained that the operationalisation will help reduce bureaucratic delays and bring services such as civil registration, security response and public administration closer to wananchi.

Omollo emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s wider agenda of decentralising services and strengthening local governance structures. By fully staffing and equipping the gazetted units, the Interior Ministry expects improved coordination among chiefs, assistant chiefs and security agencies, ultimately boosting accountability and responsiveness within communities.

The PS reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind in accessing public services. He noted that operational administrative units will play a critical role in implementing national programmes, monitoring development projects and facilitating citizen participation in government initiatives at the grassroots level.

On youth empowerment, Omollo urged young people to take advantage of ongoing government programmes designed to uplift their economic status. He specifically highlighted initiatives such as the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme and the Youth Empowerment Fund, encouraging eligible youth to apply for training, financing and employment opportunities to improve their livelihoods.

He warned that such empowerment programmes are meant to create sustainable economic pathways for young people, reducing dependence on short-term political handouts. According to the PS, productive youth engagement through skills development, entrepreneurship support and job creation initiatives is essential to national stability and long-term socio-economic growth.

Addressing security matters, Omollo cautioned politicians against inciting violence during public events, funerals and political gatherings. His remarks follow recent clashes between supporters of Ochilo Ayacko and Peter Masara during a burial ceremony in the Oruba area earlier this month, which disrupted activities in parts of Migori town for several hours. He stressed that leaders must promote peace, unity and responsible political engagement.

The PS also urged the youth to avoid being manipulated into political conflicts, encouraging them instead to channel their energy into constructive activities and responsible participation in leadership processes. He concluded that peaceful communities, empowered youth and fully operational administrative units are central pillars in the government’s broader effort to enhance security, service delivery and inclusive development across the country.
