The transformation of Homa Bay County continues to gain momentum, driven by flagship development projects that are steadily changing lives, expanding opportunities and reshaping the region’s economic landscape. At the centre of this progress is the ongoing construction of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) at Riwa in Rachuonyo Constituency—a monumental investment signaling the county’s bold shift toward industrialisation and value-addition. Implemented through a partnership between the National and County Governments, the CAIP is already recording impressive progress, positioning Homa Bay as an emerging hub for agro-industrial growth.

Massive groundwork has already been completed, with substructures of four warehouses fully done and awaiting final touches, while another four units have reached roofing stage. The entire perimeter wall has also been completed, securing the 536-hectare site that will eventually host multiple processing facilities. Once operational, the park will anchor key value chains such as cotton, pineapple, fish, oil palm, groundnuts, avocado, and sweet potato—creating an integrated ecosystem for aggregation, processing and value addition. This is expected to unlock thousands of jobs for youth and women, stimulate enterprise growth and elevate the competitiveness of locally produced goods in regional and global markets.

Beyond job creation, the CAIP promises to significantly boost the county’s economy by reducing post-harvest losses, strengthening market linkages and ensuring farmers earn more from value-added products. As production scales up, transport, logistics, storage, packaging and service industries are also expected to grow, contributing to a vibrant local economy. With steady progress on the ground, the project is shaping up to become one of the most impactful investments in Homa Bay’s recent history—one poised to improve livelihoods for generations.

Complementing this industrial push is the construction of the modern Rodi Kopany ESP Market, a project designed to address long-standing challenges faced by traders in one of the county’s busiest commercial centres. For years, farmers, fish vendors and small-scale entrepreneurs operated in makeshift structures vulnerable to weather disruptions. The ESP-funded market, initiated in July 2024, aims to restore dignity and efficiency in local trade by providing a well-planned facility capable of accommodating 204 traders in a clean, secure and orderly environment.

With 76 percent of the works completed, the market features modern amenities including an ICT hub, kitchen, food court, social hall, cold room, dry store and a mothers’ room. Fish kilns ready for installation are set to boost the fish value chain, strengthening preservation and processing activities for local traders. Over 20 people are currently employed at the site, while many more benefit indirectly through transportation, supply of materials, and other support services—demonstrating the project’s immediate economic ripple effect.

Collectively, these development initiatives underscore a broader transformation taking place across Homa Bay County. The CAIP and Rodi Kopany ESP Market exemplify how strategic investments can uplift livelihoods, expand job opportunities and drive sustained economic growth. With each milestone reached, the county moves closer to a future defined by prosperity, modern infrastructure and empowered communities—ensuring that development is not just seen, but felt in the daily lives of its people.
