Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President William Ruto in ensuring effective service delivery across Kenya, with a strong focus on infrastructure and development projects that uplift communities. During his recent tour of duty in Fafi Constituency, Garissa County, Prof. Kindiki emphasized the government’s dedication to implementing flagship projects under the Kenya Vision 2030 agenda, which seeks to transform the nation into a regional economic hub.

A major highlight of the Deputy President’s tour was the inspection of the ongoing works on the Lamu Port–South Sudan–Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor, one of the country’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. The government has already unlocked the construction of the first 410 kilometers of the Lamu–Masalani–Ijara–Garissa–Isiolo Corridor, valued at KSh 28 billion. During President William Ruto’s last inspection in February, 17 kilometers had been completed; today, an additional 71 kilometers have been achieved in just seven months — a testament to the administration’s commitment to accelerating development in Northern Kenya.

Prof. Kindiki noted that the completion of the 750-kilometer Mandera–Wajir–Garissa–Isiolo Highway, at a cost of KSh 100 billion, together with the Lamu–Garissa Road, will be a game-changer in improving connectivity, trade, and mobility across the region. These roads are expected to open up the hinterland, enabling easier movement of people and goods from Lamu Port into Ethiopia and South Sudan, thereby enhancing Kenya’s position as a regional trade gateway.

Additionally, the Deputy President inspected the ongoing construction of the New Tana River Bridge connecting Garissa and Tana River Counties. The project, which is now 55% complete, is valued at KSh 1.7 billion and is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges and improve economic interaction between the two counties once completed. Prof. Kindiki expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and urged the contractor to adhere to timelines to ensure timely completion.

Garissa County is also benefiting from other major investments under the current administration. Over KSh 13 billion worth of projects in housing, markets, and institutional accommodation are underway or planned, while a proposed KSh 12 billion road linking Garissa Town to Harhar at the Kenya–Somalia border through Modika, Dadaab, Kulan, and Liboi aims to enhance regional integration and bolster border security. These investments are poised to transform the socio-economic landscape of the region.

Prof. Kindiki’s tour also included an inspection of the Garissa Airstrip upgrade, a KSh 710 million project jointly funded by the national and county governments, with Garissa County contributing KSh 110 million. He expressed satisfaction with the progress and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring all contractors remain on milestone targets. The Deputy President’s tour underscores the Ruto administration’s steadfast dedication to equitable development, improved infrastructure, and national unity through service delivery in all corners of Kenya.
