Deputy President Kindiki: Vision 2060 is Bigger than 2027 Politics

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans to embrace a long-term national outlook by supporting President William Ruto’s Vision 2060 agenda, emphasizing that the country’s development should not be overshadowed by the politics of the 2027 General Election. Speaking during a Sunday gathering with neighbours in Irunduni, Tharaka Nithi County, Kindiki described Vision 2060 as a transformative national agenda that extends far beyond electoral cycles and seeks to secure a prosperous future for generations to come.

Kindiki argued that Vision 2060 is a strategic blueprint rather than a political campaign slogan. He urged Kenyans to engage in meaningful discussions about the nation’s long-term development, noting that while elections are temporary events, the decisions made today will determine Kenya’s economic competitiveness and social progress over the coming decades. He said the country should aspire to match the development achievements of global economic success stories such as Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and China.

The Deputy President stressed that the 2027 elections should not dominate every national conversation, reminding Kenyans that political contests are short-lived while the country’s development agenda is permanent. He noted that regardless of who wins future elections, all citizens remain united by a shared responsibility to build a stronger and more prosperous Kenya. Kindiki called on leaders across the political divide to avoid politicizing initiatives that are intended to benefit the entire nation.

Highlighting the government’s development record, Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza administration has focused on reviving stalled infrastructure projects across the country. He noted that over 6,000 kilometres of previously stalled roads are now being completed after the government settled Sh177 billion in pending payments owed to contractors. According to him, this renewed investment in infrastructure demonstrates the administration’s commitment to accelerating economic growth and improving connectivity.

In Tharaka Nithi County, Kindiki pointed to the progress made on the Mioponi–Mukothima–Gachiongo–Gatunga Road, where 15 kilometres have already been completed. He also highlighted the government’s nationwide initiative to construct 600 modern markets, noting that facilities in Chuka, Chogoria, and Gatunga have already been completed. These investments, he said, are designed to expand business opportunities, improve market access, and stimulate local economic development.

The Deputy President used these development achievements to defend the government’s performance against critics calling for President Ruto to serve only one term. He argued that the administration should be given sufficient time to fully implement its development agenda, adding that some of its political opponents had previously occupied senior government positions for many years without delivering comparable infrastructure and development projects, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region.

Kindiki also dismissed attempts to create ethnic and regional divisions, saying the government’s development philosophy is founded on fairness and equitable distribution of national resources. He maintained that investments in roads, electricity, water, markets, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities are being implemented across all parts of Kenya without discrimination, reflecting the administration’s commitment to inclusive national development.

Concluding his remarks, Kindiki reassured government supporters amid heightened political activity, urging them to remain focused on the country’s long-term transformation rather than short-term political competition. He reiterated that Vision 2060 is ultimately about securing a better future for Kenya’s children and grandchildren, arguing that the real national debate should center on sustaining a development path capable of transforming Kenya into a prosperous, globally competitive economy rather than merely determining who occupies State House after the 2027 elections.
