The agreement marks a significant milestone in deepening cooperation between the two countries on matters of internal security and law enforcement.

The Kenyan delegation was led by Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen and included Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo. They joined the Italian delegation headed by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi during the signing ceremony.

The Letter of Intent reflects the shared commitment of Kenya and Italy to strengthen institutional cooperation, enhance intelligence sharing, and build the capacity of security agencies to effectively respond to evolving security challenges, including transnational crime and other emerging threats.

The agreement also builds on lessons learned during Kenya’s recent benchmarking visit to Italy, where officials observed that effective policing is best achieved through strong coordination among security institutions operating under a unified framework. The experience reinforced Kenya’s ongoing efforts to enhance integrated security management and improve service delivery.

Government officials noted that the partnership will facilitate the exchange of expertise, best practices, and technical knowledge between the two countries, further strengthening Kenya’s security architecture while fostering closer diplomatic ties and international cooperation in promoting regional and global security.
